Karl Slover

Karl Slover
For more than 70 years Karl S. has been following the Yellow Brick Road to the various places that Munchkins travel throughout the United States as a representative of the Land of Oz. Finally, in mid-November, all remaining seven munchkins traveled to Hollywood, California to receive their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for their role in the epic movie “The Wizard of Oz”.

Karl came to the USA from Germany at the young age of 9. He worked for several years in a traveling midget show and later moved to California as part of a carnival. Though Karl's frame is small, 4 feet 9 inches, his list of Hollywood credits is large. He has worked with stars such as Jimmy Durante and Ray Millard and it seems as if one movie led to another for him. He appeared in Bringing Up baby, Terror of Tiny Town and Blockheads with Laurel and Hardy. Following those were School Time, the Magic Trio and They Gave Him a Gun with Spencer Tracy. He says, “I even played a baby in a carriage in The Lost Weekend.” In The Wizard of Oz Karl appeared in four parts. “I was the First Trumpeter, One of the Munchkin Soldiers, one of the Munchkins who led Judy Garland down the Yellow Brick Road, and the only boy in the nest of Sleepyheads.”

Karl currently resides in Dublin, Georgia.
